Live-in and live-out staff for the grand flats of Serrano, Velázquez, Goya and Príncipe de Vergara: housekeepers, house managers, cooks, housemaids and drivers.
Household staff for the classic apartment buildings of the Barrio de Salamanca
The district takes its name from the Marquis of Salamanca, who developed it in the 19th century, and its layout comes from the Plan Castro of 1860, Madrid's first planned extension: wide streets on a grid and buildings of spacious flats, with inner courtyards and entrances built for carriages.
In those flats, from Recoletos and Castellana to Lista, Goya, Fuente del Berro and Guindalera, Maids & Co selects the people who run the house, the kitchen, the laundry, the table, the children or the car, and the person who coordinates them all when the household has a team.
The Barrio de Salamanca is one of the areas covered by our domestic staff agency in Madrid: the same selection process, fee and guarantee in the city and across the region.
DOMESTIC STAFF IN THE BARRIO DE SALAMANCA
We select the profile each property really needs
Every family needs a staffing structure suited to its way of life, its priorities and the way its residence runs.
For a grand flat we select anything from a live-in housekeeper who looks after the home and the everyday cooking to a full team: a house manager to run the day-to-day, a cook or chef for meals with guests, a housemaid for table service and clothes care, and a driver.
When a family entertains often, table service, the way guests are looked after and discretion matter as much as cleaning or ironing. We check this at interview and with the households the candidate has worked for.

LIVE-IN AND LIVE-OUT
Two ways of organising the service
Depending on the family's needs. Many of the profiles can join under either arrangement.
Lives in the home
Live-in staff
Resides in the property or in accommodation provided by the family. It suits longer hours, a greater presence, properties far from town or roles that require living in.
Lives out, set hours
Live-out staff
Works in the residence on set hours without living there: full-time, part-time or a specific arrangement depending on the duties of the role.
or
The choice depends on the professional profile, the family's needs and how the residence is organised.
PERIOD FLATS
Staffing a period flat
If the flat still has its staff bedroom and bathroom next to the kitchen, a live-in housekeeper has a space of their own and the family keeps its privacy: it is the most stable arrangement for a large home. If that area has been absorbed into the rest of the flat, a full-time live-out housekeeper usually works better, or two people on complementary hours.
In homes that host lunches or dinners, the role is defined by the service: who lays and serves the table, who cooks or works with the caterer, who looks after the table linen and delicate clothes. Sharing out those duties from the start stops one person carrying everything.
LANGUAGES AND INTERNATIONAL FAMILIES
Professionals able to work in international households
The district is home to embassies such as those of the United States, on Calle de Serrano, and Italy, in the Palacio de Amboage. For diplomatic families or those working for international companies, we require the English or French the role calls for and check it by speaking to the candidate in that language.
Language is assessed as one more professional skill, according to the needs of each position.

Domestic staff in the Barrio de Salamanca: frequently asked questions
Yes, as long as the housekeeper has a room of their own to rest in privacy; it does not have to be the old staff bedroom. If the flat has no such room, we suggest a full-time live-out housekeeper or two professionals who split the morning and the afternoon.
Yes. For homes with frequent lunches and dinners we select housemaids experienced in table service and clothes care, butlers, and house managers who coordinate the rest of the staff, and we ask for references from households with that level of service.
All six neighbourhoods of the district, between Paseo de la Castellana and the M-30: Recoletos, Goya, Fuente del Berro, Guindalera, Lista and Castellana. From Serrano, Claudio Coello and Lagasca to Velázquez, Príncipe de Vergara, Ortega y Gasset or Conde de Peñalver.
Yes, the district is very well connected: metro line 4 stops at Serrano, Velázquez, Goya, Lista and Diego de León; line 2 runs along Calle de Alcalá with stops at Retiro, Príncipe de Vergara, Goya and Manuel Becerra; and lines 5 and 9 cross at Núñez de Balboa. If the role starts early, it helps if the candidate lives near one of these lines.
The search costs nothing: you only pay if you hire. Once the person has started and you are happy, you pay a single fee equal to one month of the agreed salary, plus VAT, with no subscriptions or lock-in. We advise you on the salary according to the duties and the arrangement.
Before deciding, you can have a 2-day trial at home. Once hired, if the person leaves or doesn't settle in within the first 6 months, we replace them free of charge, and if you are not satisfied during the first month we refund 50% of the fee.
