Salaries follow the 2026 minimum wage (RD 126/2026) and contributions are computed with Social Security's official 2026 brackets and rates (indefinite contract, with the 20% reduction and 80% rebate every household employer gets). Your family's cost is the gross salary plus the employer's contribution; the worker's contribution is deducted from her salary. Figures are indicative: they depend on the agreed salary, the location and each case; we'll give you the exact figure, no obligation.

HOW IT'S CALCULATED

How the total cost of a housekeeper is calculated

The real cost of a housekeeper is not just the figure on the payslip. For the family, the spend has two parts: the gross salary you agree with the person and the employer's Social Security contribution on top. The worker's own contribution is not a third part: it is deducted from her salary (you pay it in together with yours, but it is not extra spend). This calculator adds salary and employer contribution to give you the total monthly and annual cost, plus our one-off fee, at a glance. Pick the arrangement —by the hour, live-out or live-in— and adjust the hours or enter a salary: salaries follow the 2026 minimum wage (RD 126/2026) and contributions use Social Security's official brackets and rates (Order PJC/297/2026), so the numbers match what the TGSS will debit.

Why does the real cost land at roughly the salary plus 22%? Because, on the contribution base, a household employer pays common contingencies (23.60% with a 20% reduction), occupational contingencies (1.50%), unemployment and the wage-guarantee fund (with an 80% rebate) and the MEI (0.75%): 22.27% of the base in total. The worker contributes 6.40%, deducted from her payslip. At full time on the minimum wage (€1,424.50/month over 12 payments) the total cost settles at around €1,742/month, and above the minimum wage you contribute on the actual salary at the same rates. Every household employer gets those reductions (large families may opt for 45%). Registration is mandatory from the first hour, including hourly work: there is no legal option to pay cash without contributing.

The result already includes the two extra payments and the 30 days of paid holiday: they are not a surprise that shows up later. What the calculator cannot guess is your specific case —location, profile, languages or urgency all move the market salary— nor the final settlement when the relationship ends. So treat the figure as a guide: use it to budget and ask us for the exact number, no obligation. With Maids & Co you pay no fee until you hire.

FAQ

Questions about the cost calculator

How is the total cost of a housekeeper calculated?
The total monthly cost is the gross salary plus the employer's Social Security contribution. The calculator starts from the arrangement you choose: for live-out it takes the minimum-wage salary for the weekly hours (or the salary you enter); for hourly work and live-in it applies your rate or salary. In every case it computes the contribution with the official 2026 brackets and rates (≈ 22% of the base for the employer; the worker's 6.4% is deducted from her payslip). The result already includes the extra payments and holiday.
How much does a full-time housekeeper cost in 2026?
Full-time (40 h) at the minimum wage, the salary is €1,424.50/month over 12 payments and the total cost for the family is around €1,742/month with the employer's contribution included (€317.24 at the official 2026 rates). A market profile above the minimum wage raises that total.
Does the calculator include Social Security?
Yes. The total cost and annual cost already add the employer's Social Security contribution (≈ 22% of the contribution base). The worker's contribution (6.4%) is shown separately because it is deducted from her salary: you pay it in with yours, but it is not an extra cost. Registration is mandatory from the first hour, including hourly work.
What about the agency fee?
Our fee is a one-off payment equal to one month of the agreed salary, plus VAT, and you only pay it if you hire. The calculator shows it separately and adds it into the “first-year cost”. It includes the 6-month guarantee with free replacement.
Does the cost include extra payments and holiday?
Yes. The two extra payments and the 30 calendar days of paid holiday are already factored into the figures. The 12-or-14-payment toggle only changes how the same annual salary is split, not the total cost.
Is the calculator's result exact?
It is a reliable estimate but indicative. Salaries follow the 2026 minimum wage and contributions the official Social Security brackets for an indefinite contract; the real cost depends on the location, profile, languages and hours of each family. We'll give you the exact figure for your case, no obligation.
