Live-in domestic staff for families and properties in France

Maids & Co is an agency specialising in the selection of live-in domestic staff for families and properties in France: large flats in Paris, family residences around it, villas on the Côte d'Azur, country properties in Provence and Alpine chalets.

In France we select live-in staff only, living in the property or in accommodation provided by the family: from traditional household duties to cooking, driving, childcare, personal assistance, maintenance and running a team.

LIVE-IN DOMESTIC STAFF IN FRANCE

We select the profile each property really needs

A flat in Paris may need one person for cleaning, laundry and cooking, or a whole team with a head housekeeper, a butler, a chef and a chauffeur. A villa on the coast changes pace between summer and winter, and a bastide in Provence or a chalet in the Alps calls for another structure: before any search, we define which profile suits each property.

Among others, we select these profiles, always on a live-in basis:

Paris

Live-in staff for large flats and town residences

In the 6th, 7th, 8th and 16th arrondissements, from one person for cleaning, laundry and cooking to a full team. With delicate furniture, art or textiles, we require experience in comparable homes.

Neuilly-sur-Seine

Live-in staff for family residences close to Paris

Large flats and family houses where continuity and discretion count and, with children, organising schools, activities and travel. We select household staff, nannies, governesses, chefs, head housekeepers and chauffeurs.

Saint-Cloud, Le Vésinet and Versailles

Staff for residences with gardens and more space

Beyond Paris come gardens, more maintenance and more driving: a team of several people or a domestic couple can both work well.

Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat and Cap d'Antibes

Live-in staff for villas on the Côte d'Azur

Villas with gardens and pools, very different in summer and winter. We select steady staff and couples who keep the property up and raise the service when owners and guests arrive.

Cannes and Mougins

Staff for town residences, villas and larger properties

Flats and villas in Cannes, larger estates in Mougins: a head housekeeper, chef, chauffeur, nanny, domestic couple or a bigger household team.

Saint-Tropez and Ramatuelle

Staff for villas with intense seasonal activity

Busy summers with guests, meals, rooms, laundry, vehicles and changing hours; the rest of the year, a couple or a small team looks after the property.

Provence

Staff for bastides, mas and country properties

Large gardens, land, a pool and outbuildings. We select domestic couples and caretakers, always keeping household maintenance separate from agricultural or specialist technical work.

Megève, Courchevel and Chamonix

Staff for Alpine chalets

Live-in couples, chefs, head housekeepers and chauffeurs used to strong seasonal swings: they prepare the chalet, work through the busiest periods and supervise it afterwards.

Divonne-les-Bains and the Swiss border

Live-in staff for families working in Geneva

Homes in France linked to the Geneva area. The actual place of work and any travel between countries are set out from the start.

LIVE-IN STAFF

An arrangement built on residence and stability

Lives in the home

Lives in the property

The employee lives in the property or in accommodation provided by the family and works under the agreed terms.

  • Not round-the-clock availability

Living in does not mean being available at all hours: duties, hours, rest and accommodation are set out from the start.

  • When it fits

It is the right arrangement when the family needs continuity, travels often or the property needs a steady presence.

LANGUAGES AND INTERNATIONAL FAMILIES

Staff able to work in international households

We select people with French, English, Spanish or other languages to suit each family, and assess language as one more professional skill.

DOMESTIC COUPLES IN FRANCE

Specialist selection for residences, villas, chalets and country properties

We assess both people together, look at how they actually shared the work in previous roles and check their references. A couple can combine interior and cooking with driving, garden, vehicles, maintenance and supervising the property.

We select couples for main residences, villas on the Côte d'Azur, Alpine chalets and country properties in Provence.

INTERNATIONAL RECRUITMENT

Candidates moving from another country

When a candidate comes from another country, their documents must allow them to start work in France: we take this into account from the start of the process.

Maids & Co handles the search, assessment, interviews and reference checks, and supports the family through the start of the role. The employment relationship is formalised directly between the family and the employee, under the applicable rules.

Requirements for working in France

  • EU nationals can work in France without a work permit.
  • To hire someone from outside the EU, the EEA and Switzerland, the employer must first obtain a work authorisation; some visas or residence permits exempt the holder.
  • Residence in Spain does not by itself allow work in another member state.

Official sourceservice-public.gouv.fr (sheet F2728, work authorisation for a foreign employee) and europa.eu/youreurope (work permits in the EU).

General guidance, not legal advice: each case is confirmed with the family's adviser or the country's authorities.

HOW WE WORK

A selection process adapted to each family

The process begins with an analysis of the property, the family, the duties of the role and its terms. The first profiles usually arrive within a few days; the start date depends on travel and, where needed, on permits.

  1. Needs analysis

Together with the family we define the profile, the duties, the accommodation and the main requirements of the role.

  2. Selection and assessment

We search for and interview people with relevant experience and check their track record and references.

  3. Shortlist and interviews

We present a shortlist of suitable profiles so that the family can meet them and judge the fit in person.

  4. Start of the role

Once the family has chosen, we support the start of the role and the setting of its terms.

FEES AND GUARANTEE

One-off fee and a 50% refund in the first month

The family pays nothing during the search. Only when the person starts, and if the family is satisfied, is a single fee due: one month of the agreed salary, plus VAT where applicable depending on where the job is. No subscriptions or lock-in.

  • One-off fee: one month's salary (+ VAT where applicable)

A single payment, only when the person starts. The exact amount is confirmed in advance.

  • 50% refund in the first month

If you're not satisfied during the first month, we refund 50% of the fee.

  • Interviews and travel

Interviews can take place by video or in person. The family covers the travel for the start of the role.
